Hi, I’m Frank Gorritz, APC, NCC (he/him). I’m an associate professional counselor who works with adults and adolescents as they navigate challenges and stressors in life. My goal is to help you find strength and resilience when dealing with these stressors, as well as during the various challenges that you will encounter in your life. One of my areas of focus is helping individuals to navigate stressors related to their minority statuses including their race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, and religion. Out of the specialty areas listed on our website, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+, QTPOC, and racial stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
My Work As A Therapist
I have always wanted to pursue work where I can support and give back to others. This is what led me to pursue training in mental health counseling, so that I can help others discover their strengths while they are navigating stress. That said, the work of therapy does not just consist of my training. Together, we create a therapeutic space which can lead to insight, healing, and liberation, all things that you can use for empowerment throughout your life.
What It’s Like To Work Together In Counseling
I realize it can be scary to come to counseling for the first time and have to talk to a complete stranger about your problems. You might worry about whether your problems are serious enough for therapy, or whether a therapist might judge you. These are completely natural fears. I try hard to provide a non-judgmental and welcoming environment for all of my clients, and this is done by the methods listed below.
- To best support you in counseling, I utilize my training to:
- Engage in active listening
- Build an affirming relationship to help you feel comfortable and safe
- Honor your narratives, experiences, and stories
- Collaborate to develop goals to focus on throughout therapy
- Counsel from a social justice framework to provide affirming care and help you work through your stressors
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
I don’t ever want any of my clients to feel judged and I want to ensure that your voice is being honored throughout the counseling process. The best counseling spaces are created when the therapist and you as the client can work together to meet your counseling needs. Creating a space together is about focusing on what counseling means to you, what you hope to gain out of the process, and how we can help you accomplish your goals.
